How Praxia began
I built Praxia because the software I needed did not exist, and the tools I patched together kept breaking.
This is the short version of how a clinic owner with a spreadsheet ended up building practice management software. It is told by Andrew, a co-founder.
The story in six steps
A spreadsheet, and an idea I could not shake
I was in a high performance mentoring program for healthcare businesses. The mentors had us write our key numbers on a printed sheet and add them up with a calculator every week.
I thought that should all be automated by software. So I built highly sophisticated Google Sheets to track the numbers that matter most in a clinic. I was a participant, not a coach, yet I ran my own video calls in the private group to launch new versions of it.
I did not realise I had started building a practice management system.
From a spreadsheet to a scraper
Next I learned Python and wrote a web scraper. It pulled contact lists out of our practice management system and scheduled a text message every day through a separate SMS tool. Think patients who had been inactive for 2, 8, 16, 32 and 52 weeks, each getting a check-in from the clinic.
Later I was introduced to a CRM and automation platform, which opened up far more than I had imagined.
One interface update broke it all
I spent seven weeks travelling in Argentina, where I met a friend who works in software testing. We kept a weekly call going while I was away.
When I got home, our practice management system had pushed yet another interface update, and my scraper integrations had completely collapsed. I spent a month trying to fix them with my own Python and ChatGPT, and I was failing. All that time the automation was down, and it was costing the clinic.
Claude Code changes the pace
I asked my friend if they would help. We started working with Claude Code and had the integration running again in under a week.
After a short breather from how fast that went, I improved it a great deal. It was the first time the whole idea felt solid.
That was when I stopped seeing a patch and started seeing a product.
I run a clinic, and I would have bought this
Evolution Medical Care is my own working acupuncture and allied health clinic. If software like this already existed, I would have known about it and subscribed to it. It did not, so we are building it.
My co-founder Giuli and I build Praxia mostly with Claude Code. It sits on top of an established CRM platform that handles a lot of the maintenance, account set-up and integrations. That platform does not have enough fields for what a clinic needs, so we also run our own application and servers behind it.
Pre-pilot, and honest about it
We are pre-pilot, and we hope to open the pilot in a few weeks. Once it is stable, we move on to marketing and selling to clinics we do not know yet. The focus is Australia.
We have no customer numbers, reviews or case studies yet, and we will not invent them.
