Payments and private health claiming, built around Tyro
Less admin. More clinic. Taking payment and lodging a private health claim should happen where the visit is recorded, not in a second system at the front desk.
This page says exactly where that work stands: part of the pilot product, and built and run end to end on Tyro’s staging environment.

Where this stands today
Private health fund claiming through Tyro Health is part of the pilot product. It has been built and run end to end on Tyro’s staging environment. Card payments at the front desk through Tyro Health are part of the pilot product too.
In plain terms, card payments and private health fund claiming through Tyro Health are part of the pilot product, and each clinic is switched on for them as part of onboarding. We will confirm in writing when a clinic is live on Tyro, and until your clinic is switched on, keep your current claiming arrangements. We would rather you hear that from us now than find out during onboarding.
Praxia itself is a pilot with Evolution Medical Care, a clinic run by Praxia’s founders, and is being onboarded there now.
What is built
- Private health fund rebate claiming and card payments taken at the front desk, through Tyro Health. Built and run end to end on Tyro’s staging environment.
- Recording of payments taken another way: staff can record cash, bank transfer and external EFTPOS payments against an invoice.
In development
A secure payment request sent to a patient by SMS. It has been validated in the test environment, is in development, and live use depends on production go-live.
The aim of building around one provider is that the invoice, the payment and the claim sit against the same visit. The design aim is that your reception team does not re-key amounts from one screen to another, and that each payment and claim can be traced to its visit. Payment reconciliation is not live, so do not expect the week’s payments to reconcile themselves.
Recording payments taken outside Praxia
Clinics take payment in more than one way, and that will not stop on the day you switch. Staff can record a cash, bank transfer or external EFTPOS payment against the invoice so the visit shows as paid.
Recording a payment this way is a record of what happened, not a transaction run through Praxia. For that reason we do not promise refunds through this route.
What is launching, and what is not in scope
Being specific here matters more than sounding broad, because clinics choose software around their claiming.
- Private health fund rebate claiming through Tyro Health is part of the pilot product. Card payments at the front desk through Tyro Health are part of the pilot product too.
- Medicare, DVA and NDIS are in scope for the platform but not part of the early pilot release, and may arrive during the pilot or, more likely, before commercial release; tell us if they matter to your clinic.
If you rely on your current claiming arrangements, or on Medicare, DVA or NDIS billing today, plan to keep them in place until we confirm in writing that your clinic is live on Tyro. We will not ask you to give up something that works for something that is not ready.
How we will tell you it is live
Private health fund claiming through Tyro Health is part of the pilot product. We will not describe a clinic as live on Tyro until it has been switched on and checked, and we will confirm in writing when your clinic is live on Tyro. Until your clinic is switched on, keep your current claiming arrangements. When that happens, this page will change, and so will the conversation we have with each clinic about its own set-up.
Until we confirm in writing that your clinic is live on Tyro, keep your current claiming arrangements and do not plan your front desk around Praxia taking live payments or lodging live claims. If any page of ours reads otherwise, tell us and we will correct it.
There are two reasons we put this in writing. Clinics plan their front desk around how they take payment, and a wrong assumption costs a real day of trading. And clinicians are rightly cautious about software that promises more than it has done.
What this means if you are thinking of switching
Payments are one part of a switch, and the part we are most careful about. When we plan a move with you, we start with the question of how you take payment and claim today, and we tell you plainly which parts Praxia can cover now and which wait until your clinic is live on Tyro.
Read more about switching practice management software, or see the rest of the features. For how your records and payment details are handled, see security, privacy and data residency.
